Who We Are
Happy Overall was founded by Jenny Pruitt and Mark Cleveland in Nashville, Tennessee.
Jenny is a writer, filmmaker and lifelong collector of things with a story. The whole idea for Happy Overall started with a pair of overalls she bought in 1991 and somehow never stopped wearing. They are roomy, comfortable and impossible to replace. People still ask about them.
Mark is an entrepreneur, business builder and the person who finally heard the pattern in all that feedback. After enough people asked where Jenny got her overalls, he turned to Jenny and suggested: “Hey, we should start making these.”
So we did.
Jenny and Mark met on a beach in 2013 and have been learning how to live in love since them. (That story is its own story, told in their Love in the Making podcast). Happy Overall is part of the love-life they are building now — intentionally creative and collaborative, because that's when they both feel most alive and in love.
Our Three Founding Principles
Expression
We believe people should be able to wear something joyfully personal — something that says a little bit about their hobbies, art, family, obsessions, humor, history, or whatever weird little corner of the world they love most.
Connection
Happy Overalls start conversations. They give people a reason to ask, notice, compliment, laugh or remember. And we're not just selling overalls. We're gathering the people wearing them to be part of community.
A smarter apparel model
We are working toward a model where artists can participate economically, customers can help shape what gets made, and production follows real demand instead of guesswork.
Our Process
We make Happy Overalls slowly and intentionally, in small batches and thoughtful silhouettes designed for real life. Some begin with extraordinary hand-block printed fabrics. Others begin with original art from creative collaborators. All are shaped by the same idea: one humble garment can carry color, story, humor, memory and connection into the world.
Each piece is designed with care, cut and sewn in the USA, and made to feel personal — not mass-produced, not generic, not like everything else.
Our Styles
Our first style is The Relaxed, based on Jenny’s original 1991 overalls. It is relaxed, roomy and made for everyday life, but reimagined in expressive fabrics: hand-block cotton cambric, bold digitally printed cotton twill, artist patterns and one-of-a-kind prints.
