Dress Like Yourself
Mark and I were in a "poco de planning" retreat in Mexico City at the end of last year, dreaming and strategizing about our Big Hairy @ss Goals for the year ahead. Brandon was there when we said one of them out loud: “We’re going to start an overall company.”
It was one of those ideas that felt a little crazy and completely right at the same time.
That's when Brandon shared a piece of advice he received from a friend in LA who styles celebrities:
Dress so unmistakably like yourself that if someone dressed up as you for Halloween, everyone would know exactly who they were supposed to be.
"Yeah, bold, expressive overalls everyday all day,” I said, “That would do it."
From the minute I met Brandon, I sensed he knows exactly who he is. He's expressive, natural, comfortable in his own skin. And it’s not just how he dresses. It’s how he moves through the world.
A few months after that trip, Brandon found out we had our first overall prototypes. He came over, pulled on a pair, and immediately leaned in. He let us take photos from every angle. We had so much fun.
Then, without missing a beat, he got to work with Mark in the backyard laying a flagstone path back to what we call the Tiny Happy Forest (the little patch of woods we restored for small, home concerts here in East Nashville).
That’s the thing about Brandon. He shows up fully, whether he’s in front of a camera or building something with his hands. And he makes a statement, not for attention but for connection and joy.
That’s the kind of energy that helps us all feel Happy Overall.
